Man in the Blue Moon by Michael Morris

Man in the Blue Moon is set in an area of Florida that I am very familiar with, not far from my home town. The author does a great job of describing the area, styles, characters, etc just as I would invision them during this time period, during World War 1. From the beginning you feel the frustration and hope for Ella. The characters were presented in a way that makes you feel they are a part of your family. I would give it a 5 star except that I feel there were too many minor characters that were presented through out and the storyline became tangled with several stories that really didn't matter to the reader. But overall I enjoyed the book very much.

The Surprising Imagination of C. S. Lewis

This book is more than a scholarly look at Lewis' works and the imagination within, it is a fascination look at the man himself and those of like minds during his lifetime.
If you are a true Lewis fan or just getting to know him and his writing, this book is a must read. The authors do an excellent job of sharing many of Lewis' best moments and memories to demonstrate how imagination works through each of his writings.
There is so much substance within this book that I will be reading it again and referencing it many times for my study group and for personal study.

My God and My All-The Life of Saint Francis of Assisi

What a beautifully written biography of this most wonderful Saint! As we travel from his birth, through his life as a missionary and to his death we share his hopes, struggles and his close walk and love of God. We also get to meet many of the people who followed him and learn so much of the history of the time of his life and the know world. Being that I am not of Catholic faith and don't know much about their traditions, I had to step away from the book at times to do additional research. (only reason for the 4 star rating) But that is what a book is suppose to do is to spark an interest for learning something new and this book does that for me. I learned so much from this book about Saint Francis that I didn't know about and also gained a new perspective into his life. There are so wonderful thoughts and phrases in this book that touched my heart.

"Despite a perfect storm of hostile forces that threaten to deny children a healthy, ahppy childhood, courageous parents and teachers can turn the tide. Yes we can reclaims childhood" from Their Name Is Today. I love this because even though I am not a parent I have neices and nephews, friends and just all the beautiful children I come in contact with each day that I am touched by. This book is not only for parents but for any one who has a heart for children. I love the stories he tells to illustrate the ideas of each chapter, discussing everything from difficult children to dealing with today's technology, good and bad. I would recommend for anyone who loves children.

Purex PowerShot Flip Dose Done! Win a free bottle!

I have always hated the mess that liquid detergents make when measuring! Well Purex has come up with a solution and I love it!!! Purex PowerShot is awesome! The bottle is small enough that it doesn't hurt my arm or hand when trying to use it and all I do is open the top, flip it upside down to allow detergent to dispense into washing and then close lid. Easy and absolutely no mess. Also comes in my favorite fragrance, Natural Elements. And it dispenses the right amount so clothes come out clean and fresh. *The Purex brand provided me with a sample of Purex PowerShot detergent in exchange for a product review. However, all the opinions expressed are my own.

Would you like a free bottle of this great detergent? Well just sign up for our blog in the right hand column, leave a comment saying you have signed up and you will be entered to win a coupon for a free bottle. Winner will be picked on March 28th. Thanks for reading.

Book Review-wisdom of the sadhu; Teachings of Sundar Singh

I had heard of Sundar Singh many years ago but never knew much about his teachings or writings. So thankful that I was presented with a copy of this wonderful collection of "Scenes" and "Conversations" taken from accounts by Singh himself, writers who knew him, his books, interviews and articles. The first part of this collection is the "Scenes" which contains impressions from key events in his life and the second part "Conversations" consists of dialogues that come from his books and his teachings.

I have referred back to this book many times since finishing to read one of the parables or stories as encouragement or as a devotion for my day. You can see Jesus' teachings reflected throughout and a new perspective on our relationship with God and others.

Kim Comer has done a wonderful job of compiling and editing the information as it is presented in a really good flow and each section smartly leads to the other. I really enjoyed this read.

Book Review-and life comes back by Tricia Lott Williford

True Look at Love, Life and Healing after a Loss

From And Life Comes Back: I claimed three goals for each day: 1. Get out of bed. 2. Get the children to school. 3. Get to Starbucks.

Tricia Lott Williford writes a survival story that will encourage and give you hope in the darkest of times. Such an honest and touching perspective which at times touched me to the core. This book can be hard to read if you have recently lost a loved one but I highly recommend it if you feel that you need a new perspective on love, life and healing.

I received this book for free from WaterBrook Press/Blogging for Books for this review. I was not required to write a positive review.

Book Review-Woman of Courage by Wanda Brunstetter

Posted by greatbuys4less on August 8, 2014 at 12:15 AM Comments comments (0)

Amanda Pearson, a Quaker woman suffering from a broken engagement, leaves her home in New York and travels west, to minister to the Nez Perce Indians. Along the way, she encounters many problems, yet she never gives up. Like a true woman of courage, Amanda trusts God to see her through, even when she fights illness, abandonment, misunderstandings, and an unexpected event.

Set in 1837, this historical novel has many twists and turns that will take readers from the rugged Rocky Mountains to Oregon Territory and the home of the Spalding Mission, where the Nez Perce Indians were first introduced to Christianity.

I liked this novel for the historical value it provided and when a woman travels 3,000 miles for a mission then I would say she has courage for sure! The author really did research in presenting this interesting book and the characters where very interesting. But there was a part of the book that I really didn't enjoy and that was the part where she was trying to convert everyone, we know that was her mission but it seemed to be over whelming in some parts of the book. But it is a Christian based book.
