Ordering Your Private World by Gordon MacDonald

Gordon MacDonald tell his personal story to start this excellent read, a man not ordered at all when his life began and growing up. He uses great visual examples and stories to help the reader understand about ordering and organization of your life and world. I thought about giving an example of the  stories but don't want to give away any of the interesting highlights of the book. Each chapter is a new eye-opening lesson concluding with a chapter that ties them all together. I really enjoyed this book and plan on using it for future study and reference. A great feature is that a study guide is included which covers each of the 15 chapters. Great for group or individual study.
If your life seems out of control, our of order or just so chaotic you don't have time for the important things, this book is for you.

the Awakening of HK Derryberry by Jim Bradford

This is a special story about business executive , Jim Bradford, who meets a young man who has multiple disabilities and has a difficult start in life. They become friends after meeting in a fast food restaurant where his grandmother works and where HK has to stay during the day. What I expected was an inspiring story about how the young man inspired others and the man. But really it is a story about how Jim Bradford changed the life of HK and the full story of the adventures of Jim and HK. There is quite a bit of self promotion here by Jim about all the things he did for HK but in turn those things changed both of their lives in a positive way. I enjoyed the book and if you need a positive, uplifting book, this is a good one.

Get Out of That Pit-Beth Moore

Beth has a way of simplifying complex issues through scripture and her excellent stories. She does this in Get Out of That Pit but there are some issues within the book that don't need to be simplified and really deserve further explanation and exploration. An example was when she mentioned being in a pit due to an illness but really didn't explain any further. I don't think an illness would be considered a pit. But that is only my opinion and that is where I started feeling that I was not connecting with this book. Also, there seem to be a lot of repetition. I would suggest if you are in a time where you need encouragement or a new start this book would be good. She has a lot of great insight, excellent stories of encouragement and overall it is an uplifting book. I also like the weekly scripture readings in the back and reflections questions.

Review-Kids' Visual Study Bible NIV

The Kids Visual Study Bible by Zondervan is an excellent Bible for kids and adults who want to dig deeper into their study of God's story. In the outer margins of each page verses are highlighted and then exponded on with a question or statement (many pictures or graphics) along with references to other verses or infromation about the history of that particular time of history. There is enough room in the margins for plenty of note taking and they are a beige color while the text background is white so it really stands out. The text is quite small, so if you have poor eyesight this is not the Bible for you but if you can read 8 type or higher you will be good.
I would not classify this as a "Kids" Bible due to the design, size and layout. It is more of a teen to adult Bible  It is a smaller, thicker type Bible which I really like and would be good for someone just reading the Bible for first or 100th time. I would have liked to have seen a timeline of the whole Bible or each book included.
Overall a nice "study" Bible but not a Kids' Bible in my thinking.

You Carried Me by Melissa Ohden

This very personal story of an abortion survivor really touched my heart and gave me a new perspective on faith and forgiveness. Melissa was fourteen when she learns that she survived a botched abortion. This memoir gives the details of her search for all the answers to her questions about her biological parents and gives insite into what it is like to feel the anger, hurt and pain of not being wanted, as she thought. Then she gets to meet her birth mother. Very well written and highly recommended.

The One Year Book of Healing

Dr Reggie Anderson as compiled a really nice devotional book that focuses on Bible verses and commentary that pertain to physical, spiritual and emotional healing. Each day has a Bible verse, followed by a story or thought from Dr Reggie that is thought provoking. Then he has a RX for each day, a action you can take to make you feel better. Then there is a short prayer. Also at the beginning of each month there is a page long checkup, which is an overview for the month ahead. Very unique devotional, worth the read.

Tyndale House Publishers provided me with a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

NIV Holy Bible for Girls Journal Edition

This is a really nice hardcover NIV version of the Bible, perfect for gift giving with presentation page. I love the colors and design. There is lots of room for journaling with lines and space on every page, from top to bottom. It has a nice ribbon marker and a matching band for closure. The size is really nice for carrying, wider than regular Bible, but not as tall. The only thing I didn't like about this Bible is that the print is quite small but the type is darker and pages not too thin so ok.

I think older girls would enjoy this Bible too!

This daily devotional is so very lovely! First of all the size of this book is perfect for placing in your purse to carry with you so you can read it while waiting during errands, etc. Love the padded cover. Each day has a Bible verse for you to look up and read, then a wonderful insight that sparks you into thinking very differently about life. Then a prayer that is fits into every day life and that anyone can pray. Such an encouraging little book!

In All Things by Marta Curti

In All Things New  is beautifully written in a form that kept me wanting to read on and on. It is the story of Penny Rose who has grown up, virtually alone, going from one fostor home to another with no direction or love to keep her stable or allow for a feeling of family. Finally she comes up with a plan to make a change, which I won't go further in describing because I think it would take away from the reading. But once she has the plan in place and as time goes on, her life goes from sad to something very unexpected. With many bird references which make this novel so unique, flight and fancy seem to follow Penny through her life.

I love how this book flows with beautiful form and such grace. At first with the narrative jumping between three perspectives, I was a little confused but once I began to get the feel for the story and characters then I had no problem following the story. Also a warning, I didn't realize this before reading but she does write about a rape and abuse and it is very graphic but done in a tasteful way. This would be the only negative things I could say about the book.

Man in the Blue Moon by Michael Morris

Man in the Blue Moon is set in an area of Florida that I am very familiar with, not far from my home town. The author does a great job of describing the area, styles, characters, etc just as I would invision them during this time period, during World War 1. From the beginning you feel the frustration and hope for Ella. The characters were presented in a way that makes you feel they are a part of your family. I would give it a 5 star except that I feel there were too many minor characters that were presented through out and the storyline became tangled with several stories that really didn't matter to the reader. But overall I enjoyed the book very much.
